How to celebrate World Environment Day 2022
‘There is only one earth and together we can protect it’
The world is constantly changing. Some things are good. Some things are bad.
Issues such as pollution, deforestation, overpopulation and climate change are causing some serious problems to the Earth.
We can’t harm it any more. We need to heal it.
World Environment Day is the biggest international day for the environment. Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), it is celebrated annually on the 5th of June.
The international day encourages awareness and action for the protection of the environment with millions of people across the world engaging to protect the planet.
So what is happening this year?
About World Environment Day 2022
Each year, World Environment Day is hosted by a different country where the official celebrations take place – this year the host country is Sweden and the theme is #OnlyOneEarth. This was the same slogan used 50 years ago in Stockholm and is still true to this day.
This campaign calls for collective, transformative action on a global scale to celebrate, protect and restore our planet.
What we all can do to make a difference this World Environment Day
While our individual choices do make a difference, it is only together that we can create the transformative environmental change the world desperately needs.
From simply raising awareness of the international day and learning about the environmental impacts going on in the world to making positive changes to your every day such as:
- Volunteering regularly for a clean-up in your local area
- Consuming less, reusing more and recycling wherever possible
- Giving clothes and household items a new lease of life or a new home instead of throwing them away
- Source goods and services from suppliers who are also ethical and sustainable
- Walking or cycling to work (if possible)
- Reducing consumption of meat and dairy products
- Making sustainable living the default
- Advocate for change
What Visual Print and Design are doing…
You may be thinking that the easiest thing for my businesses to do is to stop producing printed materials but did you know that the European paper industry is a world leader when it comes to sustainably-sourced raw materials, renewable energy and recycling rates?
Thanks to the way it is produced and reused, paper is inherently sustainable and the sector is also one of the lowest industry emitters of greenhouse gases, accounting for less than 1% of all EU greenhouse gas emissions.
At Visual Print and Design, we combine our passion for print with our love for the planet to offer a vast selection of sustainable and eco-friendly print materials.
We want companies to be able to lower their carbon footprint whilst making a big impression through print. That is why we:
- Continue to measure and reduce our CO2 outputs and those of our customers
- Offer an unrivalled selection of recycled and sustainable paper stock
- Are part of the Carbon Capture Programme
- Do not use paper that comes from rainforests
- Offer eco-friendly alternatives with our promotional merchandise
- Are part of the FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) Chain of Custody Group Scheme (FSC-C004309).
This World Environment Day, we encourage you to join the #OnlyOneEarth campaign and showcase what actions you and perhaps the organisation you work for are undertaking to protect and restore our common home.
And if you’re not, look at ways you can start making a difference to the world.
